Lead Science Instructors deliver weekly science-themed curricula to groups of ~16-22 campers while utilizing The Tech Museum of Innovation’s “design challenge” approach. Most importantly, Instructors generate enthusiasm and inspire our campers in the sciences and engineering. If you are passionate about science and engineering, enjoy working with kids in a unique and dynamic environment, and have a fun and energetic attitude, Camp Galileo is for you! As a Lead Science Instructor, you will further develop your skills as an educator while creating an unforgettable camp experience for our campers. Instructional experience in science preferred but not required. Previous camp experience is a plus!
Responsibilities
- Prepare and deliver 3.45 hours of science instruction per day (curriculum provided)
- Prepare materials for classes each day before or after camp
- Make changes to curriculum to improve the program or accommodate specific campers
- Supervise and assist Team Leaders while they are working in your program area; inspire them become better instructors
- Contribute to and participate in daily opening and closing ceremonies, all-camp activities, snack and lunch supervision, and camper check-in and check-out processes
- Collaborate and cooperate with fellow staff members to provide an unforgettable camp experience for your campers – and yourself!
- Assist with daily set up and clean up before and after camp
- Attend weekly staff meetings on Thursdays, 3pm-5pm
- Attend one weekend of mandatory training (June 7-8)
- Participate in one day of set up on the weekend before camp starts
- Participate in one day of clean up the day after camp ends
- Complete mid and end of camp staff surveys
Qualifications/Requirements
- College graduate
- Experience with the age you wish to teach (1st-2nd, or 3rd-5th graders). Experience with other grade levels will be considered
- Ability to work on a team, energetic and adaptable
- Previous camp experience is a plus!
Work Hours (camp is in session
9am - 3pm)
Estimated work hours amount to 41-45 hrs per week. A typical day is 8am-4:30pm, except Thursday is 8am-5:00pm for staff meetings. These hours are estimates and may vary on a daily and weekly basis. Extended Care Program hours are optional.
Compensation
Instructors will be paid between $525 and $625 per week of camp (5, 6, 7, or 8 weeks depending on location)based on experience and level of education. Payroll is processed every two weeks.
