Extended Care Coordinators (ECCs) oversee all aspects of the camp location’s Extended Care Program. We are looking for a dynamic, flexible individual who will help us shape this new camp staff role. Working closely with the Camp Director and Operations Coordinator, ECCs are responsible for ensuring a high level of camper safety, strong program delivery, and quality staff, camper, and parent experience. You will help generate enthusiasm and inspire our campers after the traditional end of camp, where they will engage in additional activities and structured down-time. Daily extended care is offered for campers from 8am-9am and from 3:00-5:30pm; the ECC will oversee both shifts, but will only work an afternoon-early evening shift. If you enjoy working with kids in an after-school-like setting and have a fun and energetic attitude, this position may be the right one for you! Instructional experience leading kids, particularly in outdoor games, team building activities and arts & crafts, preferred. Previous camp experience is a plus.
- Managing a team of up to 5 others (Team Leaders, Summer Interns, and Lead Instructors), prepare and deliver extended care (curriculum and supplies provided)
- Prepare materials and programming for extended care each day (both AM and PM care)
- Make changes to curriculum to improve the program or accommodate specific campers; innovate and adapt curriculum, providing feedback to the Curriculum Manager
- Work with the Camp Director to manage scheduling of staff Extended Care Work shifts in advance
- Communicate and partner with the Operations Coordinator to manage capacity, roster generation, check-in and check-out, and other administrative duties
- Oversee indoor and outdoor activities, including but not limited to: teambuilding and outdoor games, craft activities, curriculum driven activities, and structured down time
- Collaborate and cooperate with fellow staff members to provide an unforgettable pre- and post-camp experience for your campers – and yourself!
- Oversee the check-out process and communicate with parents upon check-out of their campers, delivering Galileo News and other important information, soliciting feedback and ensuring a quality experience
- Assist with daily set up and clean up before and after extended care
- Checks in with Camp Director and other staff regularly to communicate important information about staff, campers, and parent needs
- Potentially attend weekly staff meetings on Thursdays, 3pm-5pm
- Attend one weekend of mandatory training (June 7-8)
- Participate in one day of set up on the weekend before camp starts in addition to one day of preparation in the latter half of the week before camp
- Participate in one day of clean up the day after camp ends
- Complete mid and end of camp staff surveys and provide feedback to the Camp Director regarding staff performance in Extended Care and your overall experience in the position
Qualifications/Requirements
- College Graduate
- Experience running an after-school program and/or working with groups of a wide range of ages and grade levels in an after-school environment
- Ability to work on a team, energetic and open to learning
- Experience managing or leading a small team of others
- Previous teaching and camp experience a plus, but not required
- Flexibility, adaptability, and creativity are must-have characteristics
Work Hours (extended care runs from 8-9am and 3-5:30pm)
Estimated work hours amount to approximately 25 hrs per week. Though you will be overseeing the AM extended care, you will do so by managing through and with the Camp Director. A typical day’s schedule would have you arrive around 1pm and wrap up your day around 6pm, though occasional AM shifts may be required. These hours are estimates and may vary on a daily and weekly basis.
Compensation
Extended Care Coordinators will be paid $350-$375 per week (6, 7, or 8 weeks depending on location) based on experience and level of education. You will be paid a stipend for training, setup, and cleanup, and will also be eligible for a performance-based bonus (linked to parent surveys and Camp Director evaluation) of up to $100 at the end of camp.
